Workflow Action: Split

Use Split to randomly divide contacts into multiple paths so you can test, compare, and optimize different workflow strategies.

Testing Different Strategies Instead of Guessing What Works Best

Effective marketing and sales automation often requires experimentation. Different messages, offers, follow-up sequences, and routing strategies can produce very different results even when targeting similar audiences.

BizStackPro's Split workflow action randomly distributes contacts across multiple workflow paths, allowing businesses to compare approaches, conduct A/B testing, and optimize automation performance using real-world data.

Without structured testing, businesses may rely on assumptions instead of measurable results, making it difficult to improve conversion rates, optimize communication strategies, or identify the most effective workflows.

This guide explains how the Split workflow action works, how contacts are distributed across workflow paths, and how to build more data-driven automation systems inside BizStackPro.

Before creating workflow splits, it helps to understand how automation paths, A/B testing, lead routing, workflow statistics, conversion tracking, and optimization strategies work together inside BizStackPro.

What the Split action does

The Split action divides contacts into multiple paths using a random distribution. Each path can run different actions, making it perfect for A/B testing messages, routing leads, or comparing automation approaches.

Key characteristics: Split is percentage-based, supports up to 5 paths, and locks each contact into a single path permanently.

Step-by-step: How to set up a Split

Step 1: Create or open a workflow

  1. Open your workflows area in BizStackPro.
  2. Create a new workflow or open an existing one.
  3. Add the trigger that will send contacts into the workflow.

Step 2: Add the Split action

  1. Click the + icon where you want the split to occur.
  2. Search for Split.
  3. Select Random Split as the distribution type.
  4. Review the default two paths (50% / 50%).
  5. Add or remove paths as needed (up to 5 total).
  6. Edit path names for clarity.

Tip: The total percentage across all paths must equal 100%. If the total is higher or lower, BizStackPro won’t allow you to save the action.

Step 3: View Split statistics

BizStackPro provides statistics so you can track how contacts distribute across each path.

  1. Click the Split action inside your workflow.
  2. Open the Statistics view.
  3. Review how many contacts entered each path.

You can also view path distribution directly on the workflow canvas when the stats view is enabled.

Common use cases

  • A/B testing: Test different email or SMS versions to see which performs better.
  • Lead routing: Distribute leads among reps or teams when you need balanced volume.
  • Campaign optimization: Compare strategies and refine future workflows.
  • Support routing: Assign conversations or tasks to different internal teams.

Test smarter with built-in workflow tools

BizStackPro makes A/B testing and workflow optimization simple—without needing extra software.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many paths can I add in a Split action?

You can add up to five paths in a single Split action. Each path can have its own percentage and workflow actions.

What criteria does the Split action use?

The Split action uses random distribution only. If you need to split contacts based on conditions or criteria, use the If/Else action instead.

Can I change split percentages after a workflow is active?

Yes. You can update the Split configuration, but changes only apply to contacts who enter the workflow after the update.

Will contacts move to a different path if they re-enter the workflow?

No. Once a contact is assigned to a path, they will always follow that same path even if they re-enter the workflow.

Optimize workflows with confidence

Use Split actions to compare strategies, improve performance, and build repeatable automation systems that convert better over time.
