How to Port a US Telephone Number to Your Account

Bring your existing numbers to BizStackPro Phone. Gather the right info, prep your LOA and bill, submit in E.164 format, and the carrier transfer can begin.

Overview

Number porting moves a phone number from your current carrier into your BizStackPro Phone account. To avoid delays and rejections, gather the correct account details, submit required documents in the correct file format, and list every number in E.164 format.

Heads up: Porting a personal cell number is usually permanent and not recommended. If possible, port existing business/VoIP numbers instead.

Before You Begin

  • Location ID: Go to Settings → Business Profile and copy your Location ID.
  • Customer name: Must match the name on the current phone bill.
  • Service address: Physical service address is required (no P.O. Box).
  • Numbers to port: List every number and specify the number type (wireless, landline, toll-free).
  • Wireless only: Account number and PIN (or last 4 digits of SSN, depending on carrier).
  • Losing carrier: The current service provider’s name.

Match your bill exactly: Most port rejections happen because the name, address, account number, or PIN doesn’t match the losing carrier’s records.

Required Documents

  • Letter of Authorization (LOA): PDF ≤ 4MB, dated within the last 15 days.
  • Recent phone bill: PDF (scanned or electronic) ≤ 4MB, showing the numbers and service address.

Prepare these PDFs before you submit your request so your port can move forward without back-and-forth.

Submit Numbers in E.164 Format

Submit each number in E.164 format to help prevent carrier rejections.

Example (US): +1XXXYYYZZZZ

Send Your Porting Request

  1. Complete your porting form with the details from your current carrier.
  2. Attach your LOA PDF (≤4MB) and recent bill PDF (≤4MB).
  3. Submit the full package to support so the request can be placed with the losing carrier.

Tip: If you’re porting multiple numbers, keep them in a single, clearly formatted list and confirm each number’s type (wireless vs landline/toll-free).

Canadian Number Porting

  • Canadian ports usually follow the same submission steps as US ports.
  • Typical timelines are 4–6 weeks, depending on the losing carrier.
  • Include the account number with the current provider to reduce delays.
  • After porting, test both voice and SMS to confirm expected behavior.

Fees & Internal Transfers

  • Porting fee: A one-time fee per number may apply.
  • Internal transfer: If the number already exists with the same underlying provider under another internal account, it may only need a project-to-project move. Provide the losing account identifier.

Avoid downtime: Don’t cancel service with your current provider until the port completes. Canceling early can cause a failed port or number loss.

Keep your number and keep your workflow running

Clean documents, correct carrier info, and E.164 formatting reduce rejections and speed up your porting request.
