Manage your sales pipeline with more control by separating opportunity creation from updates—so you avoid accidental overwrites and keep stage movement predictable.
Sales pipeline management becomes difficult when opportunities are created inconsistently, deal stages are updated manually, or workflow automation accidentally overwrites important sales information.
BizStackPro separates opportunity creation from opportunity updates, allowing businesses to automate pipeline management while maintaining greater control over how deals move through the sales process.
Without structured opportunity automation, businesses may create duplicate records, overwrite existing opportunities, lose pipeline visibility, or spend unnecessary time managing deal progression manually.
This guide explains how Create Opportunity and Update Opportunity workflow actions work, when each should be used, and how to build more reliable pipeline automation inside BizStackPro.
Before automating pipeline management, it helps to understand how opportunities, workflow triggers, sales stages, pipeline movement, ownership assignments, and workflow actions work together inside BizStackPro.
BizStackPro replaced the legacy Create or Update Opportunity action with two separate workflow actions: Create Opportunity and Update Opportunity. This gives you granular control over when a new deal is created versus when an existing deal is changed—helping prevent accidental overwrites and making your automations easier to maintain.
Important: If your automation used the deprecated “Create or Update” action, rebuild that step using the correct action for your goal: create a new deal, or update an existing one.
The Create Opportunity action creates a new opportunity record in the pipeline and stage you select. It does not modify existing opportunities.
Best practice: Pair this with a clear “new lead” trigger so each inbound request gets a consistent deal record that’s easy to report on.
The Update Opportunity action edits an existing opportunity. This is how you automate stage movement and keep your pipeline accurate as a lead progresses.
Avoid accidental overwrites: Only set the fields you truly want to change. Mapping or setting extra fields can overwrite information your team added manually.
Testing tip: Test both paths—one where the contact has no opportunities (Create), and one where the contact already has an opportunity (Update). This helps prevent duplicates and missing deals.
Separate “create” from “update” so your workflows stay predictable, your stages stay accurate, and your team avoids accidental overwrites.

Yes. The Create Opportunity action allows you to create multiple opportunities for the same contact across different pipelines or stages.
BizStackPro will prompt you to complete required fields before allowing the opportunity update to be saved.
Yes. You can automate opportunity updates by configuring workflow triggers tied to specific customer behaviors.
The action was deprecated to provide more granular control and prevent accidental overwrites by separating creation and update actions.
Create new deals only when you mean to—and update existing deals only when progress happens. That’s the simplest way to scale automation without confusion.
More control. Fewer overwrite mistakes.
