Call Tracking

Attribute inbound calls to specific campaigns and traffic sources with Number Pools, dynamic swapping, and simple funnel integration.

Understanding Which Marketing Efforts Actually Generate Calls

When calls start coming in from ads, emails, social media, and websites, it becomes difficult to know which campaigns are actually producing results.

Call tracking uses dynamic number swapping and Number Pools to connect inbound calls to the traffic source that generated them.

Without tracking, businesses often spend money on campaigns without clear visibility into what is driving phone calls and conversions.

This guide will walk you through how call tracking works so you can measure attribution, test campaigns more effectively, and improve marketing decisions.

To begin, review how call tracking works and how Number Pools connect calls to specific traffic sources.

How Call Tracking Works

BizStackPro uses Number Pools to display different tracking numbers to visitors based on their source (ads, email, social, keywords). When calls come in, attribution is recorded so you can see which channels and campaigns drive results.

Follow along: Create a Number Pool → add the tracking snippet → publish → test in an incognito window.

Step 1 — Create a Number Pool

  1. Go to Settings → Phone Numbers, then select Add Number Pool (or edit an existing pool).
  2. Choose a mode:
    • Track visitor activity: Dynamic swapping across multiple sources (PPC, Facebook, Google, etc.).
    • Track a marketing campaign: Isolate a single initiative (example: one email blast).
  3. Name the pool, choose how many numbers to include (example: 2, 5, 8), and set Forward Calls To.
  4. Optionally enable Swapping Number and purchase any additional numbers needed.
  5. Click Next: Tracking Options to continue setup.

Pro tip: Name pools by source (e.g., Google Ads – Roofing) so attribution is obvious in reports.

Choose Your Tracking Numbers

  • Local to your primary number — maintain local presence.
  • Toll-free — project national presence and invite calls.
  • Any area code — target specific regions with localized numbers.

Configure a whisper message (example: “new call from ad campaigns”) and optionally enable call recording (follow local laws). Click Activate Number, then Done.

Step 2 — Update Number Formatting

In Phone Numbers → Tracking Numbers, choose how your Swapping Numbers display on pages: 111-222-3333, 111.222.3333, or (111) 222-3333 (U.S.).

Step 3 — Display a Tracking Number on a Funnel

  1. Pick a tracking number type (local, toll-free, or a specific area code) that matches your campaign strategy.
  2. Confirm forwarding, recordings, and whisper settings in BizStackPro.
  3. Add the tracking number (or the snippet) to your funnel’s phone element or tracking code area.
  4. Open the page in an incognito window to confirm the displayed number appears as expected.
  5. Publish/Update the funnel once verified.

Step 4 — Add the Tracking Snippet

  1. Click the info (i) icon next to your Number Pool.
  2. Copy the Normal Snippet.
  3. In your funnel/website, go to Settings → Tracking Code and paste the snippet (commonly in Footer Code).
  4. Save changes.

For page-specific swaps, paste the snippet on that page’s Settings → Tracking Code → Footer Code.

Step 5 — Test Number Swapping

Visit the page in an incognito/private window and confirm the displayed number changes according to the visitor source. If you’re testing ads, use the actual ad click URL (with UTM parameters) so attribution can be detected.

Step 6 — Track Keywords from Google Ads

Append ?keyword={keyword} to your ad URL (example: /landingpage?keyword={keyword}) to record the searched term prior to a call.

Example: Your ad URL becomes https://yourdomain.com/landingpage?keyword={keyword}. When the visitor calls, the keyword can be stored with attribution.

Pro Tips

  • Keep forwarding paths and voicemail destinations consistent across pool numbers.
  • Use clear naming for pools/numbers so your team instantly recognizes the source.
  • Include call recording disclosure where required (consider adding it to your whisper or greeting).

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose Track visitor activity or Track a marketing campaign?

Use visitor activity for dynamic swapping across sources. Use marketing campaign to isolate one initiative.

What are Swapping Numbers vs Pool Numbers?
